MMA Athlete, Sushi Lover, Island Dweller
Born and raised in Belem, Brazil. Larissa first found her love of martial arts when she began Muay Thai at the age of 15. Shortly after she began training Jiu Jitsu under the guidance of João Bastos. Larissa began training on a daily basis, a year later and having expanded her focus to MMA she had her first amateur fight. Following which she fought 3 more times in 2012. In 2013, with a host of early wins under her belt, Larissa entered Jungle Fight. After 3 successive wins, Larissa was named female champion at 61kg.
The young Brazilian champion caught the eye of the UFC and became a UFC Pro Fighter in 2014. At only 19 years old, she was the youngest ever athlete to join the UFC. Her first fight verses Jessica Andrade ended in a loss via a Guillotine Choke. In 2015, the young fighter fought her toughest bout yet when she faced Kickboxing and UFC Featherweight Champion, Germaine De Randamie at UFC185. The 31 year old proved to be an extremely tough opponent, a characteristic that gave the the nickname “The Iron Lady”. In the second round Germaine won by TKO. However not before breaking Larissa’s arm with a side kick.
Unfortunately because she continued to fight for the second round, with a broken arm the longterm damage was much worse and 2 surgeries were required. The next 3 years were spent rehabilitating her arm and relocating to Rio de Janeiro where she taught Jiu Jitsu whilst planning her return to the UFC. In her free time, Larissa was involved with Erica Paes social project to teach women self defence as well as starring as a MMA fighter in the popular Brazilian TV show A Força do Querer opposite famous actress Paolla Oliveira.
In 2018, following many frustrating hospital visits, Larissa was finally signed-off as ready to start fighting again. During her time off she focused on gaining explosive muscle mass and began technical training to fight in the 66kg weight class. Her first fight in 3 years was against Karolline Rosa Cavedo at WOCS49 were she won via Guillotine Choke in the second round having dominated the entire bout to become the first WOCS Female 66kg champion.
The road back to the UFC has been paved with difficulties and setbacks. However, she is on her way…
